Moving Right Along

Enlighten us.

While the White House desperately tries to save George W. Bush’s “legacy,” the rest of the world is putting it behind them.

I think if there is one thing that we should all be able to agree on, it’s that Bush could give a rip about his legacy. Nice attempt to cover for Clinton though.

Rather than force to you actually read this, I’ll pull out the short versions.

1. First, on Jan. 21, 2009, end the war on terror. Just declare it over.

And then they’ll stop. Brilliant!










2. So let’s replace the war on terror with the kind of coordinated effort that the fight always should have entailed: a hybrid covert war and criminal roundup confined to Al Qaeda and its spawn, conducted with deep intelligence and special-forces cooperation among states within the international system.

Note the word ‘criminal’. That is the only change in this statement. The rest of this brilliance is already occurring. But then again, once we declare the ‘war’ non-existent, all of those otherwise happy go lucky ‘states’ will join the posse and round up them bad Al Qaedians for us. Brilliant!

3. The next president will also need to cut a deal with Tehran, one that freezes its nuclear program short of the weapons stage.

Once we get Bush out of the picture, they will love us. Just ask Jimmy Carter.

4. Finally, the moment will be ripe for the president to embrace reform of the United Nations in a genuine way, now that the American people have experienced profoundly the pitfalls of unilateralism.

Forget the British, point made. Brilliant! There are those allies again. Gosh we missed em.

To sum up; Trust Iran, trust the U.N., and trust the same bureaucrats that were running Oil for Food.

And then there is this gem:

Pope Speaks

Pope Benedict XVI reasserted the primacy of the Roman Catholic Church, approving a document released Tuesday that says other Christian communities are either defective or not true churches and Catholicism provides the only true path to salvation.

...don’t say anything at all.

The new document — formulated as five questions and answers — restates key sections of a 2000 text the pope wrote when he was prefect of the congregation, "Dominus Iesus," which riled Protestant and other Christian denominations because it said they were not true churches but merely ecclesial communities and therefore did not have the "means of salvation."

Well, call me offended…slightly. I’ve been attempting to ease back into things and not get so wound up. But as a not very good Presbyterian, I would like to point out that the Protestant Reformation was brought about by the Pope in the first place. Have we forgotten that it was the Pope that attempted to raise a little cash by auctioning off passage to Heaven (or at least the wait time)? Who can blame ole Martin Luther and his pals for deciding that they didn’t need a Pope, and abandoning the entire concept of Purgatory all together?

But more importantly, WHY BRING IT UP NOW!?? Strict doctrine is great, but so is common sense. Animosity between Protestants and Catholics has been on the wane for years. All religions believe they are right, otherwise there would only be one religion. But why shove it in everyone’s face? Why now? What does it do for anyone, Catholic, Protestant or otherwise?

The Vatican statement, signed by the congregation prefect, American Cardinal William Levada, was approved by Benedict on June 29, the feast of Saints Peter and Paul — a major ecumenical feast day.

Isn’t it ironic that it was a fund raiser pushed by Leo X to support rebuilding of St Peter's Basilica that kicked off the Reformation. I think I'm going to to visit my ecclesial community in the near future and make a donation. It's been a while. Just wait until my Baptist cousins see this.

...created an online program that supposedly allowed Giants fans to vote online for Bonds 25 times in about 30 seconds. And with the use of the F5 refresh key, code users could potentially vote online for Bonds 3600 times in an hour.

Barroid is the best cheater in the game today. Perhaps his lead by example style has worn off on Giants fans after all of these years.
