Enemies to the North, Enemies to the South

Invasion from the North:

Canada A Hotbed For Terrorists

Though many view Canada as an unassuming neutral nation that has skirted terrorist attacks, it has suffered its share of aggression, and intelligence officials believe at least 50 terror groups now have some presence here.

Perhaps we need to wall up both borders.

…include supporters of some of the best-known Mideast groups, including al Qaeda, authorities say.

Maybe a moat

Osama bin Laden named Canada one of five so-called Christian nations that should be targeted for acts of terror. The others, reaffirmed last year by his al Qaeda network, were the United States, Britain, Spain and Australia.

With sharks

The Canadian Security Intelligence Service, counterpart of the CIA, said terrorist representatives are actively raising money, procuring weapons, "manipulating immigrant communities" and facilitating travel to and from the United States and other countries.

Well, the Canadians are even saying it. While Canadians spend much of their time criticizing the United States, it seems their country is itself a hotbed for terrorism. How about something on the order of the Great Wall of China, but with snipers on top.

Besides al Qaeda, those groups include Islamic Jihad; Hezbollah and other Shiite groups; Hamas, the Palestinian Force 17, Egyptian Al Jihad and various other Sunni groups from across the Middle East, CSIS said.

A minefield might even be necessary. Have we banned those yet? The Canadians have so neglected their own military and border security that they couldn’t do anything about it if they wanted to. Fortunately for them, they don’t have any inclination to.

Invasion from the South:

Injured border agents likely were ambushed

Two U.S. Border Patrol agents wounded last week near Nogales, Ariz., were shot by assailants dressed in black commando-type clothing in what law-enforcement authorities say was a planned ambush by drug smugglers a mile north of the U.S.-Mexico border.

Well it was 12 on 2. A squad of Guard soldiers might have come in handy.

More than 50 rounds were fired at the agents…

So elements of the out of control Mexican military/drug runners (the two are interchangeable) basically invaded our southern border.

The agents, who were backtracking a previous marijuana load on foot, were shot in the leg with high-powered weapons. Both agents were in uniform at the time of the shooting. Authorities said the gunmen withdrew from the canyon using military-style cover and concealment tactics to escape back into Mexico.

I expect Vicente Fox to file a complaint about our border patrol firing on his innocent marauders within the week.

Sheriff Estrada questioned whether the shooters were Mexican army deserters known to protect drug loads, who have offered $50,000 bounties on Border Patrol agents and state and local police officers.

Great Wall, moat, alligators, snipers, National Guard and a minefield. Whatever it takes.

Since Oct. 1, the start of the fiscal year, 196 assaults on the agents, including 24 shootings, have been recorded. During the same period last year, 92 assaults were reported, with five shootings.

So it’s getting worse. We are allowing our sympathy to blind our sanity. I say we start charging Canada for their free protection and use the proceeds to fund the Minutemen, or anyone else who is willing to take a stand. Here’s to Homeland Security…Cheers!
