Terrorists at the Door; Time to Wake Up America

If you still do not consider illegal immigration and wide open borders a security threat, take a look at this article from the AP.

The terror-immigration connection

Until his arrest in December 2002, Boughader smuggled about 200 Lebanese compatriots into the United States, including sympathizers of Hezbollah

After Boughader was locked up, other smugglers continued to help Hezbollah-affiliated migrants in their effort to illicitly enter from Tijuana, a U.S. immigration investigator said in Mexican court documents obtained by the AP.

Well, the fact that illegal immigration is, in fact, illegal, is reason enough to put a stop to it. But the security implications laid out here certainly add a sense of urgency to the matter.

An AP investigation found these are just some of the many pipelines in Latin America and Canada that have illegally channeled thousands of people into the United States from so-called “special-interest” countries — those identified by the U.S. government as sponsors or supporters of terrorism.

Hear that Canada? Either the Associated Press has been co-opted by Karl Rove or you are a part of the problem.

“Several al-Qaida leaders believe operatives can pay their way into the country through Mexico,” Jim Loy, deputy secretary of the Department of Homeland Security, told a congressional committee in February. Further, he said, “entrenched human smuggling networks and corruption in areas beyond our borders can be exploited by terrorist organizations.”

ICE and the Border Patrol are both grossly under funded. Why not use the National Guard as the national guard?

They have moved people by plane — into suburban Washington, D.C., Florida, California. And they have crossed clients in vehicles or on foot into Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, California and over the Canadian border.

Seeing the city that I live and work in listed here certainly gives me a warm fuzzy. It’s not as though we don’t have enough MS-13 members in the area.

Terrorist groups, including al-Qaida, “use human smugglers and document forgers to a great extent,” Kephart said. “It only makes sense that they would transfer that to infiltrate the United States.”

My preschooler could have made that observation. What does it take to get something done? Republicans, including the President, are turning a blind eye to the problem, though some increase in funding is in the pipeline. But how on earth can we create an entire new agency dedicated to ‘homeland security’ and then not practice the most basic functions in that regard. As bad as the Republicans are on the issue, Democrats are worse, so we have nowhere to turn for protection. Hillary Clinton made some statements in support of border protection recently; it’s just too bad that I can’t believe a thing she says. My vote for the next president is going to whomever I believe will close down the border to a safe level of legal immigration. I just hope that such a candidate will emerge.
